ELOOP expands: Doubled homezone with new Teslas

The ELOOP community can celebrate: The long awaited wish of our users for a zone extension comes true. With the extended homezone we enlarge our business area in Vienna. In this way, we want to meet the increased demand for e-carsharing in Vienna. We have been testing new areas since July the 6th. The ELOOP cars can then be rented and unrented there.

Which areas of Vienna will be added to the ELOOP homezone?

For the first time, we are testing areas above the Danube. This means that completely new parts of the Floridsdorf and Donaustadt districts will be added. But also in the area of Hietzing we extend our business area for the first time.

Areas of the following districts will be added:

  • 1020 Vienna Leopoldstadt
  • 1100 Vienna Favoriten
  • 1110 Vienna Simmering
  • 1120 Vienna Meidling
  • 1130 Vienna Hietzing
  • 1140 Vienna Penzing
  • 1160 Vienna Ottakring
  • 1170 Vienna Hernals
  • 1180 Vienna Währing
  • 1190 Vienna Döbling
  • 1200 Vienna Brigittenau
  • 1210 Vienna Floridsdorf
  • 1220 Vienna Donaustadt

Particularly in demand were the districts of Floridsdorf and Donaustadt, as well as parts of Döbling and Favoriten. Residents of Dornbach, Unter St.Veit, Hetzendorf and the Stuwerviertel district can also look forward to the future. We are excited about the upcoming developments and look forward to expanding our service.

Usage behavior decides which areas of Vienna will finally be included

Our users play a major role in the final decision on which areas of Vienna our ELOOPs will be available for rent in the long term. After a test phase we will analyze the usage behavior in the new areas. With the help of these evaluations, we will decide which areas of Vienna will be permanently included in the ELOOP homezone. Our service team will take care of the best possible allocation of e-cars in the ELOOP area.

But users will soon also be able to actively participate in fleet management. For this, our service will be implemented in the StreetCrowd-app. Complete tasks for our e-carsharing fleet and earn money doing so. Sign up now!

Expansion of the ELOOP fleet: New Teslas on Vienna’s streets

Our fleet is constantly growing. As our home zone expands, we are also making brand new Teslas available for rent. A total of 200 ELOOP Teslas will be on Vienna’s roads by the end of this year. This is made possible by our investors, the Graz-based real estate developer C&P and Venionaire Capital, as well as other new and long-standing investors and partners.

Team growth: ELOOP gets reinforcement

It is a big challenge to realize the homezone expansion including the new Tesla fleet in such a short time. We can only do this with a strong team. ELOOP has been joined in recent months by numerous dynamic and creative talents. They all share a common vision: to further advance an environmentally friendly mobility concept and to share resources and space.

ELOOP specializes: We’re going all Tesla from now on

We have learned a lot in the last few years: By collecting and analyzing a lot of data on usage behavior, we understand the needs of users in urban environments with regard to e-carsharing better and better. To meet these needs, we have taken our Smarts and Renault Zoes out of the fleet and now rely entirely on Tesla.

The main reason: Teslas have a longer range. Many users want to get out of the city and rent an e-car for long distances – often for a whole weekend.

This is also very much in line with our vision of complementing environmentally friendly mobility: with our concept, we primarily want to make longer journeys attractive, rather than an alternative to public transport in urban areas.

In addition, the Teslas are better equipped and larger. This offers our users more comfort and flexibility in terms of use. With the focus on Tesla, ELOOP becomes an even more attractive alternative to private cars.

Our cooperation with Drei

Of course, one of our main goals has always been to be able to offer Teslas in our service. Since our fleet currently consists of BMW i3s, Renault Zoes and Smart EQs, it was time to bring the much sought-after and best-known electric car brand into our car sharing service. After more than a year of Eloop car sharing, we are more than happy to add our first Tesla Model 3 to our fleet.

This step was made possible by the cooperation with Drei. With the cooperation with telecommunication provider, the fleet is now to be expanded with Tesla models. How many vehicles Drei wants to provide for the service depends on the success of the first cars.

Our new subscription models

We responded to customer feedback and after a few inquiries decided to create different subscription models. This should enable our users to benefit from various advantages and benefits.

Freemium, Premium, Ultimate – which one suits me?

There are three pricing models. The minutes / hours / daily prices vary depending on the subscription. In addition to our Freemium model for € 0 / month, there are the models Premium for € 8.90 / month and Ultimate for € 59.90 / month. With these two models, you benefit from reduced prices, free unlocks, more kilometers per trip and less deductible.

With the Premium and Ultimate subscription models, you not only save yourself the € 1 unlock each time, but also enjoy cheaper minute, hourly and daily prices. In addition, you have more km / trip included and pay significantly less for the additional kilometers than in the freemium tariff. The deductible is also reduced in the two subscriptions. While the deductible is € 1200 for the freemium subscription, it is only € 900 for the premium subscription and € 600 for the ultimate.

With the freemium tariff, you do not benefit from any discounts and benefits, but you can use the service at any time flexibly, without commitment and without additional costs.

Our service is designed for longer rents of several hours and days, so the decision to purchase a Premium or Ultimate subscription pays off, especially for multiple or longer journeys.

Some examples:

Anna makes 2x day-rents with the BMW i3 per month:
Freemium – 2 * 74.33 € + 2 * 1 € = 150.66 €
Premium – 2 * € 65.90 + € 8.90 = € 140.70

Paul makes 10x day-rents with the ED3 per month:
Premium – 10 * € 29.90 + € 8.90 = € 307.90
Ultimate – 10 * € 23.25 + € 59.90 = € 292.40

You can now simply select the premium tariff in the ELOOP app. The Ultimate tariff can currently only be selected on request, it is in beta.

Is car sharing a competition for the public transport?

The (reasonable) use of car sharing in urban areas is often questioned. Due to the well-established public transport network in Vienna, one would see no use and necessity of car sharing in the city. We all agree that normally, a person living in Vienna can get around in the best possible way using environmentally friendly public transport.

An environmentally friendly addition

Electric car sharing is not intended to replace the usual and everyday routes, it is rather an environmentally friendly option to rent a car depending on the situation. For people who do not have a car, this is a pleasant alternative to make longer journeys, heavy transports or trips. It is ultimately a rental car that can be parked almost anywhere in Vienna free of charge. After your trip the vehicle can be parked in the entire home zone. A rental car with a number of advantages, so to speak.

In addition to all these positive aspects, the main factor that distinguishes ELOOP from all other casharing providers is clear – our cars are 100% electric with green electricity. Another decisive factor is that we don’t see our home zone as a (single) operational area, but rather as an extended rental car parking space. Our tariff model is also designed for longer rentals of several hours and days.

The golden mean

So our service lies between the well-known car sharing and car rental providers. While most car sharing trips take 20-30 minutes and a rental car usually only pays off after at least 2 days, we position ourselves exactly in between – in the golden middle. We do not want ELOOP cars to replace public transport, but see ourselves as an environmentally friendly addition to Viennas public transport system.

Thanks to the well-developed public transport network, many Viennese relinquish a own car. We are committed to this positive development. With our service we want to support those who do not have a car and need one depending on the situation.

Therefore, car sharing shouldn’t be a convenient alternative to public transport, but an addition to environmentally friendly mobility.

5 Trips into nature around Vienna

With a green car into the green

Although Vienna was voted the most livable city in the world for the second time in a row, there is often a great need for peace, nature or even for a summit cross and well-deserved mountain hut meal in between our city life. No question, in Vienna there are some green oases and variety from the everyday life and if you long for more rest or nature, you can easily get out of Vienna by train or bus. But many destinations are hardly or difficulty to reach without a car. ELOOP offers the perfect solution to avoid having to switch to the familiar excursions, or to be dependent on (non-ideal) departure times.

If you are in the mood for nature, the lake or a hearty mountain hut meal, you do not know where to go – read on and you may find your perfect trip tip!

The km and thus the time information is given by assuming that the starting point is in Vienna’s city center.

Kahlenbergdorf

You don’t have to drive out of Vienna to enjoy the village idyll and Heurigen-atmosphere with a view. With just under 12km and less than half an hour’s drive, the Kahlenbergdorf invites you for a spontaneous trip. The steep and narrow streets of the Kahlenbergdorf give this authentic quaintness, which is underlined by the vineyards and hiking trails. For wine and food, the wine taverns and restaurants, which you either discover at the harbor while watching passing ships, or high up with a view over the village, the Danube and Vienna. Probably the best view is from the Heuriger “Hirt”. Good, local food and wine are ordered here without a menu. In Kahlenbergdorf you can enjoy your evening off after work without much planning and thinking.

Kaltenleutgebner See

The nature area and biotope in Perchtoldsdorf is rather unknown to Viennese. The quarry lake is 27 km from the center of Vienna, so you can be there in less than an hour. Even if it is not a swimming lake, you can linger there after a short hike through the forest, but even without a hike, you can enjoy peace and nature by the water. The Josefswarte viewing platform and a few restaurants are also nearby.

Myra Falls

Already in 1801 the water that shot down into the valley fascinated Emperor Franz II and his wife Empress Maria Theresa. Even more than two centuries later, the 125m high Myra Falls inspire numerous visitors. After an hour, approx. 74 km, you are at the parking lot in Muggendorf. This is where the circular hiking trail begins, for which several wooden bridges and stairs have been built. The maintenance fee is € 5 for adults and € 1.5 for under 15 year olds, children up to 5 years visit the waterfalls free of charge. Past the area of the Myra waterfalls, it goes through the forest to a reservoir, where the “Karnerwirt” provides food and refreshment. The Myra Falls in Muggendorf are certainly one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Austria and are therefore not only an exciting destination for families. You can charge your e-car at the EVN Charging Station in Muggendorf. The charging station is a 7-minute walk from the entrance to the Myra Falls.

From the tower you can enjoy a 360° panorama, which extends from the Tullner Feld, via Vienna to the Schneeberg. There are several ways to the summit. The shortest ascent starts at the Icelandic Horse Center “Forsthof”, the walking time is 50 minutes. From the village of St. Corona am Schöpfl it takes 1 hour and if you start at the saddle of the Klammhöhe or from the Schöpflgitter it takes 2 hours.

How and where can I park in Vienna?

Parking in cities often seems complicated and many drivers are never really sure. Especially if you are not traveling by car regularly, you don’t have to worry as much about the various parking systems and possible costs. This blog post creates clarity about general parking in Vienna and parking as a car sharing user.

Short-term parking zone

In the inner districts of Vienna, the so-called short-term parking zone applies. This means that cars can only stay in a certain parking space for a certain time. In the areas marked in red, the maximum parking time is 2 hours and in the blue areas 3 hours. If the short-term parking zone is disregarded, costs of € 36 are incurred. There are no parking costs outside of these zones.

Car sharing advantage:

As long as road traffic regulations permit, a car sharing car can be parked anywhere in Vienna without hesitation. The big advantage is that the short-term parking zone does not apply to car sharing vehicles. A car can be rented for a whole day and can be parked at any public car park without time limit.

Rental car / stationary car sharing:

A classic rental car or a private car would have to be moved every two or three hours and pay € 2.10 per hour.
Example of a businessman’s business trip: Assuming that the vehicle is driven for about 3 hours a day, the parking costs are € 16.80 per day.

Parking meter fee

Car sharing advantage:

Car sharing operators pay this fee at a flat rate. This means that with a car sharing car you never have to worry about paying the parking meter.

Attention: Exceptions are the stationary car sharing providers, which are tied to a fixed location. With these offers, the user must take care of the parking meter fee and also must pay attention to the short-term parking zones.

Tip: In order to avoid confusion or a bad awakening when receiving the parking penalty, these vehicles should better be regarded as a classic rental car, because they are also treated by the responsible control authorities.

Parkpickerl for residents

For people who live in the short-term parking zone there is the so-called parking sticker for residents. The “Parkpickerl” costs between 7.50 € – 10 € per month, which is about 25 cents a day. The short-term parking zone is canceled for the vehicle in the residential district. The vehicle can be parked in the residential area almost free of charge for an unlimited period. In all other districts, these cars have to pay the normal taxes of € 2.10 per hour and pay attention to the short-term parking regulations.

Residential zones:

For the comfort of the residents, the city of Vienna has set up certain zones, to which only residents of the respective district may park. This means that only cars with a parking ticket are allowed for this particular district.

Attention: All other vehicles will be towed. This incurs costs of 300€ and more.

There is often the misconception that car sharing cars can be parked free of charge in Vienna. Car sharing cars contribute a lot to the city’s income from parking. Each car sharing car pays 212€ per month in parking fees. That is 21-28 times a private car in the neighboring district.

Charging stations

You can now also end your trip at charging stations. This can save you from an annoying search for a parking space and make our service easier. You simply park the e-car at a public Wien Energie charging station and plug the charging cable into the car and then into the charging station. Then hold the charging card to the charging station. The card is in every ELOOP car. When the charging process has started, you can end your rental. Our service staff will then take care of unplugging the cars. Please make sure that your e-car does not have more than 50% battery when you plug it in.

As you can see, car sharing users have great advantages when parking in Vienna. It not only relieves you of parking fees, but also a lot of stress to find a compliant parking space in the first place. Register now and enjoy your ride to the end!

ELOOP starts E-Car sharing in Vienna

It is not only important to offer the choice to move, cheaply and sustainable from A to B, but also to revolutionize individual mobility in Vienna and and raise awareness in the community.
You can choose from Smart EQ, Smart ED3, BMW i3 and a Renault Zoe, depending on what you want and how much space you need.
We also think of an optimized model in terms of price. You do not need to decide in advance how long you are gonna use an e-car. The price switches automatically to the cheaper price bracket. The same applies to the daily price.

ELOOP is not about bringing another app-based car rental to the market. We have made it our business to share common values. Simply sharing. In addition to the already known environmental awareness, this also means creating a new awareness of property. Although it is not necessary to have your own car in the city, you should not necessarily forego the advantages that it brings. And this is where ELOOP starts its car sharing.

With the help of a blockchain model, the opportunity should be given to actively participate, invest and benefit instead of just renting a car. Together we can break up systems, improve, and add value. Without any losses. If a few question marks have now appeared, we recommend that you read the last blog post and learn more about our idea.
